As a part of our 0 to 2 years sessions the children play for about 30 minutes with handmade toys. The most important lesson I have learnt while crafting these toys is "KISS" Keep It Simple Stupid...lol! Like the marracas I made. I was so proud to make it look extra special by wrapping the handle with twine/ string. Note: toddlers can and will destroy anything. A glue gun is no match for their determination to explore! :) Tip: ditch the twine and string...use coloured tape instead. I used electrical tape. I think I won...I'll let you know in 2 weeks if my toddlers have destroyed it!
