Reading Is More Than Homework

Somewhere along the way, many children began to think that reading is something you do only when a teacher says so. Reading became about homework, not heart, testing, not wonder.
But at The Reading Garden, we shared stories. We sat close. We paid attention to what the story made us feel. Week after week, parents returned because they enjoyed spending quality time with their children while engaging in a fun activity centred around a life skill that would benefit them mentally, socially and academically.
The children learned naturally as they wondered what would happen next, watched characters grow page by page, and experienced joy, sadness, and excitement together. That’s what reading joy is! And for many of those little readers, that joy opened the door to confidence, curiosity, and freedom.
I didn’t teach them how to read.
I reminded them why to read!
Because reading is JOY, and sometimes, it should feel like magic.
