Books Belong in Childhood

There is something timeless about how a child settles in to listen to a story.
The way their whole body quiets.
The way they wait for what happens next.
Children from different homes, with distinct personalities, would come together and light up when the story began. Sure, in our 0-3 years sessions, children moved while I read, which they were always welcome to do. I continued reading, and most toddlers eventually learnt the routine of sitting, listening, crafting, and playing!
There is just no substitute for books in the life of a child. Stories were the centre of our sessions, not just as a tool for learning but as a space for bonding, a shared experience between children, caregivers, and books. Reading together gave us something slow, meaningful, and grounding in a world that moves fast and feels noisy.
And that is what I want to help you create at home. No pressure. No curriculum. Just books, bonding, and joy.
What's your favourite story to share with a child?
Let us know! I am building a new kind of Reading Garden and would love to include your favourites.
